Prayers and Duas are the mainstay of Islam. A Muslim bows in front of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى five times a day in compulsory Prayers (Namaz, Salah). They also spend a considerable time of the day and night reciting the Holy Quran and various other duas. That shows the importance of worship in Islam and how Muslims rely on Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى for everything in their life. Reciting a dua is a multipurpose act in Islam. It is a form of worship, a plea, and a humble request of a Muslim in front of his creator seeking His mercy and guidance. Some of the duas are specific for a certain event or occasion. In contrast, some others are offered by a Muslim for the overall betterment of his life in particular and for the entire Muslim Ummah in general. In short, the life of a Muslim revolves around various prayers and duas for almost everything in his life.
