About The Author

Ibn al-Jawzi: A Legacy of Profound Scholarship

Ibn al-Jawzi, an illustrious author, has left an enduring imprint on Islamic scholarship. His literary contributions are nothing short of remarkable, encompassing a vast collection of over seven hundred books. Many of his works have been recently published, offering contemporary readers access to his profound insights.

Born in the vibrant city of Baghdad around the year 509/510 AH, Ibn al-Jawzi's formative years were dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. He had the privilege of studying under the guidance of eminent scholars of his era, honing his expertise across various domains, including history, linguistics, Tafseer (Qur'anic exegesis), and fiqh (jurisprudence).

Notably, he rose to prominence as a leading authority in the Hanbali Madhab during his era and played a pivotal role in its revival and dissemination. His close association with the Abbasid Caliph, al-Mustadi, further elevated his influence.

The latter part of Ibn al-Jawzi's life was marked by adversity. His outspoken criticism of Shaykh `Abd al-Qadir al-Gilani, who was senior to him by forty years, led to allegations made against him by the Shaykh's family and supporters. This resulted in his arrest and imprisonment in the city of Wasit, following his expulsion from Baghdad. Ibn al-Jawzi endured five years of captivity, a period filled with trials and tribulations.

Ibn al-Jawzi's remarkable journey came to an end in the year 597 AH, just two years after his release from imprisonment. His profound contributions to Islamic scholarship continue to be celebrated and revered, a testament to his enduring legacy.

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah: A Scholar of Eminence

Ibn al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah (1292 - 1350 CE) was a distinguished Muslim scholar who resided in Damascus, Syria. His journey of knowledge commenced under the tutelage of his father, the qayyim (attendant) of the school of Al-Jawziyyah, and later, he studied under the renowned scholar Ibn Taymiyah. Ibn Qayyim authored numerous books, among which "Zad al-Ma'ad" (The Provisions of the Hereafter) stands out as a renowned work. He lived contemporaneously with other eminent scholars, including Ibn Kathir, Ibn Rajab, and many others.
