Born on 20 August 1899 (12 Rabi al-Thani 1317 AH) in Bhopal, Maulana Idris Kandehlawi (RA) belonged to a noble family tracing its lineage to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) on his father’s side and Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) on his mother’s side. From a young age, he displayed extraordinary dedication to the Qur’an, memorizing it by the age of nine under the guidance of his father.

He studied under some of the greatest luminaries of his time, including Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri, Allamah Shabbir Ahmad Usmani, and Allamah Anwar Shah Kashmiri. A graduate of Mazahir al-‘Ulum, Saharanpur, and Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Idris Kandehlawi (RA) became widely respected as Sheikh al-Hadith and Sheikh al-Tafsir.

Scholarly Contributions

Throughout his career, he taught at leading Islamic institutions such as Darul Uloom Deoband, Jamia Ashrafia Lahore, and Jamia Abbasia Bahawalpur. His teaching and writings reflected not only his vast erudition but also his ascetic lifestyle, humility, and devotion to the service of Islam.
