Holy Prophet (SAW) is the last Prophet of Allah Almighty. Allah (SWT) sent many Prophets for the guidance of humanity. Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) is the last Prophet of Allah sent for the guidance of whole humankind in this world. No Prophet will send by Allah after Holy Prophet (SAW) till the Day of Judgment. Allah (SWT) loves those who love His last Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Holy Prophet (PBUH) has distinct status among the Prophets as He (SAW) brought Holy Quran. There are many ways to show love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) one of them is to recite Durood Sharif on Prophet (SAW).
As the entire world population is benefited through the Holy Prophet (SAW) that is why Allah Almighty, says in Holy Quran: “Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.” (Quran, 33: 56)
Allah Almighty make compulsory and directs all the believers to ask Him to award Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from His Blessings and Tranquility. This act of asking Allah Almighty to show His favor and protection to Prophet (SAW) is known as “Durood.” It is basically a form of a prayer, which all the Muslims are obligated to say on hearing, reading or speaking the name of the Holy Prophet (SAW) in order to pay Him respect or praise in the most rightful manner.
It is also the way of fulfilling one`s religious duty of adoring Muhammad (SAW) as Anas (RA) has narrated in Sahih Bukhari: “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children, and all mankind.” (Bukhari)
Durood is a sure means of Allah (SWT) granting blessings, peace, prosperity and favors’ of great significance on one who recites Durood Sharif on the Holy Prophet (SAW). The one who recites Durood Sharif receives all the benefits in this world and ultimate reward in the next world with an addition to the love of the Holy Prophet (SAW). A person should give due importance to reciting Durood Sharif.

In short, Durood Sharif is merely done for asking Allah (SWT) to bestow His Blessings and Mercy on His Messenger (PBUH) in order to show one`s reverence and gratitude for Prophet’s (SAW)services to the Religion of Islam. It not only completes the Prophet`s (PBUH) right of honor but also results in getting many of bounties and rewards from Allah Almighty, the Exalted in this world and in the hereafter. May Allah give us the strength to recite Durood Sharif abundantly on Prophet (SAW) so that we can show our love and respect towards Him (SAW), Ameen!
