His works, including The Objectives of the Philosophers (Maqasid al-Falasifa) and The Incoherence of the Philosophers (Tahāfut al-Falāsifa), challenged prevailing philosophical ideas and reaffirmed the centrality of Islamic theology.

Following a profound personal and spiritual crisis, Imam al-Ghazali chose to leave his prestigious post and spent the next decade traveling to Damascus, Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem, embracing seclusion, reflection, and spiritual discipline. It was during this period that he authored his magnum opus, The Revival of the Religious Sciences (Iḥyā’ ‘Ulum al-Dīn), a monumental work spanning forty books that synthesizes Islamic law, theology, ethics, and Sufism. This masterpiece continues to guide Muslims in understanding the wisdom, significance, and practical application of their faith. Other notable works include The Alchemy of Happiness (Kimiya-yi Sa‘ādat), Deliverance from Error (al-Munqidh min al-Dalal), and The Incoherence of the Philosophers, all of which have left an indelible mark on Islamic thought.
