We answer the following questions in guaranteeing you, what you are buying is high-quality product only:

  1. Seed’s origin used to extract the oil we are offering?
  2. Pureness level of the seeds?
  3. Number of times seeds were pressed to extract the oil?
  4. The pressing temperature?
  5. Is it filtered or non-filtered oil?

Nigella Sativa oil from Ethiopian black seeds:

  1. Seed’s Origin.

Black cumin quality is different from country to country, due to climate conditions, soil type, & the irrigation water used. A company in USA exclusively for black seeds, went far as to compare 12 Nigella Sativa seeds from its growing country, and gave Ethiopian seeds the top rank:

“Ethiopian seeds are the most nutritious when compared to other Nigella Sativa seeds from other countries” (bionatal llc. usa)

“Research from 2004-2016 showed that the best seeds are grown in Ethiopia.”

Big companies worldwide extract oil from seeds of different countries yielding different qualities. Oil pressed from Ethiopian black seed oil gives you great results.

2. Dark-Red (after 3 days of setting):

Bitterness: High

Quality: Considered to be the best quality on the planet

2. Pureness. The quality of the oil pressed can also be affected by the pureness of the black cumin seeds. Upon harvesting the seeds from the fields, it is normal for the output to contain huge amounts of mixed dry flower petals, dry stems, dust, etc. but the major issue is the machine cleaning process, that will usually filter out 16 – 20% unwanted particles.

Ethiopia is endowed with a suitable condition for growing black cumin seeds. The seeds come rich in vitamins, minerals, & nutrients.

The Islam works close with farmer collection sites, & provides the necessary logistics from farms throughout the country. Although Ethiopian black seed oil are considered more expensive, The Islam Shop offers real competitive prices without sacrificing quality.

Date of harvest for the seeds can affect the quality of Nigella Sativa oil. As you know, the price of seeds goes down when harvest season sets in and that is when the opportunity for buying fresh content happens. Extracting oil from 1-2 year old seeds is discouraged for after the first year of storage mold can quickly grow.

3. Number of times the seeds needs to be pressed for oil.

Ethiopian black seeds contain 30-32% of oil. If you can get 25% of oil from pressing once, although pressing twice would result in more oil output and reduction of price for the final product.

The first press should be set at 49 ℃ is fine, but to re-insert the seeds for the second press would burn the seeds resulting in increased Benzopyrene and acid levels – degrading the quality.

“The international acceptable standard presence of Benzopyrene in products is 2.0 BaP but all twice-pressed oils have a level from 5.0 to 10.5 BaP.” (bionatal llc. usa)

It is best to press the seeds once, to avoid the adverse effect on the final oil product from burning and high acid levels due to pressing twice.

4. What should the Pressing Temperature be.

For the oil to be designated as cold pressed, the temperature should not exceed 49 ℃ (120 ℉). Oils extracted this way retain their genuine flavour, aroma, and nutrients. By setting the temperature low during process, it prevents detrimental effects on the seed’s ingredients.

The cold-press extraction does not involve heat treatment nor chemical inputs. These oils have better nutritive properties than refined oils. Many of the temperature sensitive phenolic compounds are not lost and there are no oxidation reactions, which is referred to as “higher quality oil.

The Black Seeds should be pressed at 49 ℃ at an RPM of 23 – 33 cold rotation speed. Extracting 20-25% oil out of the 32% available in the seeds.

5. Filtered or non-filtered oil.

Filtering involves putting the oil through thick layers of cloth to trap the tiny sediment particles of black seeds that may be in the oil. That’s the idea.

It is best not to filter the black seed oil or remove those sediment particles with the help of Mother Nature, namely gravity.

The oil should be poured into large storage tanks housed inside a temperature-controlled room. (The exception is when customers prefer immediate bottled oil with the sediments included.) Inside the tank, the oil should be allowed to settle for three days so Mother Nature can “suck” any remaining sediment particles to the bottom. This process is called “racking.”

During racking the black seed oil should be move the oil from tank to a standard 10litre bottles made of safe quality food-grade plastic. The racking process should typically be completed every three days, allowing the company to ship a minimum of 5 new oil shipments every month.

The most noticeable difference between an unfiltered and a filtered black seed oil is appearance. The unfiltered oil appears black and cloudy, owing to residual sediment particles that weren’t removed through gravity in the settlement tank. Once the oil has been fully racked, however, the lower concentration of remaining sediment particles no longer has an adverse effect on the oil’s lifespan or quality.
